Toft
Newton trout fishery holds a large head of coarse fish. The
40 acre concrete bowl reservoir is fed with water pumped from the
River Witham at Short Ferry via a 12 mile long 48" diameter pipeline.
The reservoir was last drained in the early eighties and therefore
any coarse fish pumped in way back then bred and were the ancestors
of the fish we see today. Perch & Roach to 4Ib and Bream to 15Ib
have been recorded this season after taking artificial flies offered
by the day ticket trout anglers.
Over the years odd Pike to 10Ib have been reported but Toft doesn't
hold a huge head of fish as some trout waters do, it would be nice
to think that a 20+ would be lurking in the depths somewhere though! |

Three years ago a
team from The Independent newspaper came to visit Toft and discover
the rumoured record Perch, you can read the article here.
6 days are scheduled for January 2010 which fall within the trout
close season at Toft. The dates fall on weekends and are the 9th
& 10th, the 16th & 17th and the 23rd & 24th. The fishery
will be open from 8am until 4.30pm on those days. Any method will
be allowed on the open days including fly fishing of course! Barbless
hooks must be used and all Trout must be returned
immediately - ** No KEEPNETS & NO TREBLES! ** Piking is
allowed with lures or large dead sea baits. You are reminded that
the days are specified as coarse fishing days and it is hoped that
you will be in pursuit of them using recognised methods and not just
visiting Toft to catch the Trout!
ALL the Trout are to be looked after. If any Trout are damaged
and will not release, then they must be killed and surrendered to
the fishery staff at the earliest convenience. No Trout will be for
sale on the day and therefore there is no excuse for any angler to
retain them. A monitored CCTV system is in operation at Toft. |

The majority of fishing will
take place from the one mile of perimeter bank and there will be
a limited number of boats available. Rowing boat cost is £10
(anglers may bring their own electric outboard) or a boat with petrol
engine cost is £16. Just turn up for bank fishing but
boats should be pre-booked. The day ticket cost is £8
with a junior concession <18 yrs at £5. Any queries? -
I can be reached via telephone or email, details above.
