Learning to fly fish for trout is
an exciting prospect for all ages and at Toft we welcome
you! The banks of the reservoir lend themselves perfectly
to beginners, due to there being minimal obstruction for
the back cast and with lots of room, a 'quiet corner'
can always be found. Over the years we have encouraged
and taught many new anglers to fish and the learning never
stops - for any of us !!
Ring us to make a date and from
there we'll handle everything. We'll advise you of what
you need to bring with you and will lend you all the tackle,
flies, net etc that you'll need for your day. We'll start
by giving you an intense 1 to 1 fly casting session on
grass, then move on to the water with advice on fly selection,
knots, playing, landing & despatching your trout and
answer any questions. Coaching will continue over the
day and you'll be looked after on following visits. With
25 years experience we are here to help.

EXTENDED SEASON Season closed on Sunday 18th December 2011 and will re-open Saturday 28th January 2012
Another great weekend of sport at Toft on 2 lovely days. Very frosty starts and chilly ends, but the in between bit was great as we were bathed in winter sun. Fantastic catches to the waggler and pellet/sweetcorn/maggot lads with many of them catching 50 plus fish to 12Ib. Boat anglers were reasonably successful with the perch this week with the best being 2Ib 14oz and most of them coming on small jigged lures fished along the inlet pipe run. One pike out too, not the biggest though at about half a pound!!
Toft regular Trev Ward proved he's not just a dab hand as a fly angler this week, switching between pole and waggler, he fished near the valve tower & landed a total of 128 fish to 4Ib. Uploaded a couple of short clips of him to youtube here and here.
Trev's friend Kevan also had a great day landing 54 fish to 8Ib.
A reminder that next weekend is the last for any method and then we get stocked up with fresh daft fish ready for the start on Saturday the 28th January.
DCAC members will enjoy another season at Toft as the association have renewed their subscription with us. Toft season tickets on sale now.

Made a few changes to the live webcam image on the website, you'll now see a link on the homepage which will open a larger browser window with a better image than before. I know lots of you prefer looking at Toft to Coronation Street, so I'm trying to help!!
Reminder of the updated Toft gallery and the opportunity for you to send any Toft related pics to me, either recent or from the past, let me have them and I'll add them if suitable. View the gallery HERE and leave clean comments too if you feel the need!!?
Dry fly video with Andy Hutson fishing his own CDC pattern in the north west corner. Plenty of big sedges around and an excellent rise, he caught 15 fish in an hour and a half session. See the informative video HERE.
Uploaded a bit of video from last week at Palm Springs Salmon fishery, might be worth a look if you have a minute? See it HERE
The Toft Newton Cup and sponsored charity fundraiser for Fishing for Heroes will be a combined match and fished on Sunday 2nd October. Take a look at the website HERE and contact me to book a place.
**We have reverted back to killing your limit before catch & release as this seemed a more popular and practical choice.**
We have been approached by several anglers regarding the use of their own Kayaks at Toft and have just received permission from the EA to allow this, more details to follow soon.

Some good news for me & Toft.... I'm extremely proud to have been presented with the national Alan Faulkner Memorial Award from the Wheelyboat Trust at the CLA Gamefair. The Alan Faulkner Memorial Award has been created by the Trust in memory of its Founder President who died in November 2002. It is an annual award and goes to the game fishery that, in the judges' opinion, provides disabled anglers with the most outstanding service, facilities, opportunities and access.
The Trust is delighted to have Suzuki Marine sponsor the award. Their input undoubtedly helps raise the award's profile and encourages more fisheries to provide suitable access and facilities. I was presented with a very nice Suzuki 4 stroke outboard which will join the fleet at Toft.
We fish until dusk and follow the times from this website , take a look and it should give you an idea of how long you've got.
View a speeded up 2 minute video of an interesting cloud
that moved over Toft at the beginning of September, sounds
a bit dull and probably is but if you've got nowt else to
do it might be worth a look!? It's HERE
Older video stuff..... a sneeky look into Pablo's fly box, Steve Burns from
Hull with a lovely conditioned tagged rainbow - see it HERE
A couple of vids you might like to look at - Andy Hutson successfully 'stalking' a fry feeding brownie HERE
An interesting sequence from a DVD HERE
released, with a fry feeding sequence filmed at Toft
in late 2005, a reminder that we've got some good sport to
come, not just with perch hopefully !!
Compiled a bit of a video clip showing action from Toft, I've
had to put music over the top of it to cover the colourful
language used by one or two of its stars! You can watch it

With a mile of uninterrupted, unobstructed
bank, a dozen boats and a wheely boat for disabled anglers
use, Toft covers all tastes. Bank fishing is consistent
throughout the season with fish responding well to all
manner of fly fishing methods. Early & late season,
fry patterns & lures such as the infamous concrete
bowl, viva, appetiser and booby work well on slow sink
lines. Spring and summer, floating lines are the order
of the day with buzzer patterns, traditional nymphs &
wet flies all producing fish.
Boat sport can be fantastic at
Toft with a variety of techniques returning fish. 'Loch
style' methods are great & exciting fun - fishing
a short cast floating line in front of a drifting boat
with three flies such as a Soldier Palmer, Invicta and
Pheasant Tail nymph. When the fish are down, a variety
of deep fished nymphs and lures will produce and are best
fished from drifting boats to give a good chance of covering
fish. Our boat ramp provides good accessibility for disabled
anglers and staff are on hand to assist with use of the
wheelyboat.
Competition fishing
at Toft . The Toft Newton cup is held annually at the
fishery in the late season and is fished from the bank. Several other
events are held at the fishery including float tubing and club
level fishing competitons. We offer discounts for block bookings
available to clubs or individuals who wish to organise their
own matches. Toft is a Trout Fisherman magazine Troutmasters
water and fish-offs are held to decide seasonal winners. The December Fur & Feather match is always well attended and although the weather may be a little chilly, the atmosphere, mince pies and fishing are hot, hot, hot!! This year the match will take place on the last day, Sunday 18th December - All welcome!
